Where did you learn how to hunt waterfowl & who taught you?

I am self-taught in waterfowl hunting, learning from friends, family, employers, and anyone willing to mentor me. Growing up hunting with others, I’ve realized that with waterfowl hunting, you never stop learning. Being in the blind, observing and listening to fellow guides and the animals themselves, has been an ongoing education.

Off-season jobs/hobbies:

I work as a deckhand for Captain Kurt Charters, an offshore charter company in Dauphin Island. I hold a captain’s license. When I’m not working, I enjoy fishing, floundering, and shrimping

Where did you learn how to hunt waterfowl & who taught you?

I grew up in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, hunting the marshes and rice fields in Sweetlake, Thornwell, Welsh, and Gueydan. My parents owned a guide service specializing in waterfowl and inshore fishing for 40 years, providing me with numerous mentors in the hunting world. My biggest influence in both hunting and fishing was my father.

Off-season jobs/hobbies:

I run a Charter Boat operation in Dauphin Island, AL during the summer and also enjoy hunting eastern turkeys in the springtime.

Where did you learn how to hunt waterfowl & who taught you?

I Grew up on the Illinois River hunting and fishing pretty much year round. I also spend a good bit of time duck hunting on the Mississippi River. Pools 18 and 19 mostly. Between the endless corn and bean fields up and down the river valleys and the vast backwaters of both rivers my dad and I rarely had trouble finding a place to chase ducks or honkers as a kid. Unlike most of my buddies that grew up waterfowlers or deer hunters, I was fortunate enough to grow up chasing all the game one could legally pursue in Illinois. My father was a big upland enthusiast as well and we had Goldens and GSPs growing up that we used for waterfowling and upland pursuits. Not only that, but deer hunting has been a huge staple in the family for decades. And who can resist the thrill of chasing big Illinois bucks in sweet November? So I fell victim to that as well.

Off-season jobs/hobbies:

Needless to say water has always been in my blood, so I spend most of my off season on the water fishing, cruising, or meeting up at the sand bar with friends. I spend alot of time training and working with my dog as well. Not hard to do when he goes everywhere I go though. As for work, I run a heavy truck repair shop.

Where did you learn how to hunt waterfowl & who taught you?

I grew up on a family farm where we raised rodeo stock and horses. My grandmother also ran a dairy farm where I spent a lot of time as a kid. Although my family primarily hunted deer, my passion for duck hunting began at age 8 when my uncle took me out for the first time. Ever since, I’ve been dedicated to chasing ducks.

Off-season jobs/hobbies:

I have been a proud union millwright  member for 8 years. In the springtime, I guide turkey hunts. I also enjoy spending time at my river camp and working with my hunting dogs.
